The 2017/18 Committee:
President: James Kitching
James is a Corporate Solicitor at Coffin Mew, an executive committee member of the national JLD and a committee member of the Hampshire Incorporated Law Society (HILS).
James studied Politics and American Studies at the University of Nottingham, which included spending a year at Reed College, in Portland, Oregon, studying Politics and History. He completed his GDL and LPC at Bournemouth University.
James’ role as President of the SHJLD committee involves organising, co-ordinating and finalising SHJLD events and communications.
Vice-President: Charlotte Allery
Charlotte is a Solicitor at Coffin Mew LLP, in the Commercial and Employment team. Charlotte studied Law at the University of Southampton and completed her LPC at the University of Law in Guildford. She previously worked as a Legal Adviser at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, the professional body for the recruitment industry.
Charlotte’s role as Vice-President of the SHJLD involves supporting the President and assisting with the running of the committee when the President is unavailable or busy with other commitments.
Secretary: Emily Steel
Emily studied Law at Kingston University before completing the LLM LPC part-time at the University of Law in Guildford. She previously worked as a Court of Protection paralegal, supporting vulnerable clients who lack the mental capacity to look after themselves. Emily is currently a Trainee Solicitor at Coffin Mew LLP.
Emily is responsible for the general administration of the committee, including arranging membership with SHJLD.
Events and Social Representative: Rebecca Munday
Rebecca studied LLB (Hons) Law at Bournemouth University, and is currently working as a Paralegal at Blake Morgan in Southampton.
Rebecca’s joint role on the SHJLD as events and social representative involves planning and organising various fun and informative events for SHJLD members, liaising with local venues and negotiating appropriate packages.
Events and Social Representative: Claire Hook
Claire completed her law degree at the University of Wales, Swansea before completing the BVC at the College of Law, Bloomsbury. She is currently a barrister No.18 Barristers Chambers.
Claire’s joint role on the SHJLD as events and social representative involves planning and organising various fun and informative events for SHJLD members, liaising with local venues and negotiating appropriate packages.
Sponsorship Representative: Amy Oke
Amy is a Barrister at College Chambers in Southampton. She is currently a month into her first six and is enjoying seeing a range of civil, crime and family matters. Before commencing pupillage Amy volunteered at an advice centre assisting people with general housing, employment and family issues.
Amy is looking forward to working on the committee and cooperating with local businesses.
Media and Communications Representative: Yasmin Curry
Yasmin studied Law at the University of Leicester before completing the LLM LPC part-time at the University of Law in Guildford. She previously worked as a Commercial Real Estate paralegal at Lester Aldridge. Yasmin is currently a Trainee Solicitor at Blake Morgan LLP.
Yasmin’s role on the committee is to liaise with the SHJLD’s membership, help publicise the SHJLD events across social media and to maintain the website.
Solent Business Ball Representative: Pascale Devlin
Pascale studied Geography at King’s College London prior to undertaking the GDL and LPC at BPP London. Pascale is currently a Trainee Solicitor at Coffin Mew LLP and will qualify in 2018.
Pascale’s role on the committee is to organise the Solent Business Ball which unites young professionals.
The committee year runs from September – August each year.
